The newest bar enters on the right while the oldest leaves on the left. The track steps one column per tick (--wm-step is one bar plus its gap) and the belt around it advances a column every tick, so after --wm-n ticks the strip is back on the same picture — repeat your series --wm-n bars long and the loop has no seam. The dot fades on the same timer.
The class is wm wm-live-tick — the first half is the marker the trigger and reduced-motion rules hook into, the second is the effect.
